01. Summary In short
SMARAN.AI runs on your computer. There is no SMARAN server that receives your chats, files, voice or account. The app sends no usage data, analytics or crash reports about you. Something leaves your computer only when you use a feature that needs another service, and then it goes to that service, not to us.
This policy covers the SMARAN.AI desktop app (including the Microsoft Store edition), the Android app, the command line tool, the VS Code extension and this website. It is written by the developer, Shashwat Mishra.
02. What stays on your computer Local
- Your account. The email address, optional name and password you create are stored only on this computer. The password and the answers to your security questions are stored as one-way hashes, not as text.
- Google sign-in, if you use it, is between you and Google. Google tells the app your email address and name; they are stored on this computer. No SMARAN server is involved.
- Your chats, memory, documents and files, and anything you give the app to read.
- API keys you save for cloud providers. Each key is sent only to the provider it belongs to.
- Dots, scheduled jobs and settings.
- Microphone audio. Speech is turned into text on this computer. Audio is processed as it arrives and is not recorded or kept.
03. What leaves your computer, and only when you turn it on Your choice
- Cloud AI models (for example Google Gemini, Groq, OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral, NVIDIA, OpenRouter): your message and the context it needs go to the provider you chose, under that provider's privacy policy. With a local model nothing is sent.
- Web search, when Web is on: your search goes to the search services the app uses, and the pages it reads are fetched from their websites.
- Reading replies aloud: English is spoken on this computer. Other languages send the reply's text to Microsoft's online voices. The Gemini natural voice, if you choose it, sends the reply's text to Google.
- Gemini Live calls, if you choose them: your voice, and your screen or camera if you share one, go to Google.
- Cloud pictures and video (Hugging Face, NVIDIA): your prompt, and a picture if you give one.
- Photos in Design Studio are looked up on Openverse, or Pexels if you add a key, using words from your page's subject.
- Telegram and connected apps (such as Slack or Notion): only what you send through them.
- Phone pairing: your phone talks to your computer directly over your own network.
- Updates: the version downloaded from our website asks GitHub whether a newer release exists. The Microsoft Store edition is updated by the Microsoft Store.
04. What we do not collect Nothing about you
We do not run analytics, advertising or tracking in the app. We do not sell or rent personal information. The app does not send your chats, files, voice, keys or local account details to the developer.
Website counters: the website sends a visit event or a download-click event, together with the file category, to our counter hosted at smaran-analytics.netlify.app. The event body contains no account identifier, chat, document or API key. Session storage prevents repeat visit counts in the same browser tab; no tracking cookie is used by this counter. Netlify and other services used to deliver the website receive normal connection information, such as an IP address and browser request headers.
05. AI-generated content Live generative AI
Replies, pages, pictures and videos are written by AI models in response to what you ask. They can be wrong. In the app, Settings → Report inappropriate AI content opens a public report form; share only what you are happy to make public, and never a key or a password.
06. Keeping and deleting your data You are in control
Your data stays until you delete it. You can delete a chat, or all history, in the app. Uninstalling the app and deleting its data folder removes everything it stored on this computer. Data you sent to a cloud provider is kept according to that provider's policy.
07. Children 13+
SMARAN.AI is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. The app can reach the open web and AI models that may produce content unsuitable for children.
08. Changes and contact Developer
